Locks Heath Puma Youth and Puma Cubs are proud to be the fastest-growing junior rugby club in the area. Since our humble beginnings in 2017 with just a handful of players, we’ve grown into a thriving community that now supports nearly 300 local children aged 4 to 16 (Year R to Year 11). We pride ourselves on being fully inclusive, welcoming children of all abilities and backgrounds.

Our membership and age groups continue to expand year on year as we grow our player base.

Looking ahead, our ambition is to build a complete playing pathway, from our youngest Puma Cubs all the way to Colts and ultimately integrate into the Club’s Senior section, creating lifelong opportunities through rugby.

We have a dedicated team of over 70 volunteers and coaches who are DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and coaching qualified. Our volunteers provide our Pumas the opportunity to play rugby in a safe, inclusive, friendly and fun environment adhering to the RFU Core Values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship (TREDS).

2026 starts cold - Frozen ground but Fire in our belly

Sunday 4th January 2026 : Coach U13s - Adam Blog

The New Year brought blue skies and plenty of enthusiasm to the club this Sunday, even if the frost left the ground a bit too firm for our liking. With major fixtures looming for several age groups, the frozen pitch unfortunately robbed us of some much-needed contact practice.

However, we didn't let the weather stop us. The U13s and U15s ran high-tempo, shortened sessions designed to shake out the Christmas cobwebs and sharpen non-contact skills.

As the Lead Coach for the U13s, it was a pleasure to get back on the grass with the squad and catch up with my fellow coaches, Rob and Justin. The boys are still riding high after their clinical performance before the break—a dominant 9-1 try victory against Romsey in the cup.

Today’s Session Highlights:

Reconnection: Started with a high-energy game of touch to get the hands moving and the team talking.

Agility: Focused on footwork drills to navigate the hard ground safely.

Structure: Moved into play patterns and positional discipline to prepare for the upcoming games.

Building Resilience - What impressed me most today wasn't just the skill on display, but the attitude of the players. It takes a specific kind of mental toughness to turn up in sub-zero temperatures and give 100% when you can't even feel your toes.

That level of resilience is exactly what defines this group. If they can maintain that focus and "get the job done" attitude when conditions are against them, it will put us in incredible stead for the physical and mental challenges of the months ahead.

The session may not have been exactly what we planned, but seeing the boys' commitment to the team despite the cold proves they are ready for whatever the rest of the season throws at them.

Puma Girls

We have thriving girls’ teams who are trail blazing their way into Hampshire Festivals!

We’re proud to be the only Club in Hampshire to play our girls in mixed gender and all girls teams at an early age to build their confidence and create bonds to take them into U12s when they split off into a girl only team.

Our girls light up the Hampshire Festivals with their adapted Yellow and Pink playing shirts and socks. We show our commitment to the female game though running an all-girls additional mid-week training session to help further build their playing confidence.
